Ombudsperson
Many
colleges have a campus ombudsperson who mediates differences and
grievances that students have involving other students, instructors,
and administrators. The ombudsperson investigates and mediates
a wide range of problems, including grade appeals and difficulties
within the classroom.
The Office of the Ombudsperson
serves students, faculty, and staff by offering a confidential,
neutral, and independent dispute resolution service. The Ombudsperson's
mission is to ensure that all members of the college community
receive fair and equitable treatment within the college system.
Ideally, the Office
exists to prevent conflicts from escalating beyond the ability
of parties to resolve them informally.
